CI making special payments to investors in selected funds (segregated fund payments)

Further to the notice from April 11, 2016, CI has been making special payments to current and former investors in a number of CI funds. As a result of an administrative error, interest income earned by the funds was not recorded as an asset of the funds. CI is distributing to investors an amount equal to the accumulated interest income.
Special payments to compensate affected mutual fund investors were made in March 2016. Payments to clients with contracts that held affected segregated funds during this period were deferred, as further review was required to determine the impact on the policy guarantee values.
The assessment of affected segregated funds has been completed by CI Investments and Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada. CI expects to start making payments for affected segregated funds on August 19, 2016.
The process for calculating investor payments was validated by an independent third-party accounting firm to ensure that it is consistent with our distribution plan.
